Man arrested outside Buckingham Palace ‘reached for sword’: UK anti-terror police
British counterterrorism police are investigating a man who was detained after he drove a car at police outside Buckingham Palace then “reached for a four-foot sword”, injuring three police officers.
The Metropolitan Police force said officers stopped a 26-year-old man who deliberately drove at a police van near Queen Elizabeth II’s London residence, one of the city’s top tourist attractions.
“Uniformed officers then confronted the driver of the vehicle and during that confrontation the driver reached for a four-foot sword [in the car],” said Dean Haydon, commander of the Metropolitan Police counterterrorism branch.
The suspect repeatedly shouted “Allahu akbar”, which means “God is great” in Arabic, Commander Haydon said.
Three London police officers were slightly injured while struggling to arrest him, he added.

Murder Charge Sought For Danish Inventor Over Dismembered Journalist
Prosecutors plan to charge Danish inventor Peter Madsen with the murder of journalist Kim Wall, according to reports.
It comes as police identified a headless female torso washed ashore in Cophenhagen on Monday as that of the Swedish reporter.
Prosecutor Jakob Buch-Jepson said police are expected to raise the charges to murder and indecent handling of a corpse. “We will make an ongoing assessment of whether it should happen before,” he told the B.T. tabloid.
Police spokesman Jens Moller said the torso had suffered damage, suggesting “an attempt to make sure air and gas inside should leave the body so that it would not rise from the seabed.”

At least 37 die in prison riot in southern Venezuela: governor
The prosecutors’ office said an investigation had been launched into “the deaths of 37 people” in the facility in the town of Puerto Ayacucho.
Governor Liborio Guarulla had earlier tweeted that a “massacre” took place with at least 35 corpses counted.
Prosecutors said 14 officials were wounded in the violence, but did not say if any were among the dead.
Two prison-monitoring groups, A Window to Freedom and the Venezuelan Prisons Observatory, said the 37 killed were all inmates.
“This is the worst riot we’ve had in a detention facility,” Carlos Nieto of A Window to Freedom told AFP.
“In this one, detainees are only supposed to be held for up to 48 hours, but there were prisoners who have been there for years,” he said.
The jail was holding 105 prisoners at the time of the riot, Guarulla said.

Maduro’s son threatens to seize White House with rifles if Trump sends the US military to his nation
The White House has condemned President Nicolás Maduro’s regime for human rights abuses. More than 120 people have died in anti-government protests since April.
Last week, Trump said he would not rule out the possibility of a military intervention in Venezuela.
“Venezuela is not very far away and the people are suffering, and they are dying. We have many options for Venezuela, including a possible military option if necessary,” Trump told reporters at his New Jersey golf club.
President Maduro’s son responded to Trump on Saturday, but appeared confused on the location of the White House.
“If the unlikely event of defiling the homeland came to pass, the rifles would arrive in New York, ” he told Venezuelan state media.
“Mr. Trump, we would arrive and take the White House.”

Central Station Sydney scissors attack: Man arrested by police
A SECOND man armed with scissors at Sydney’s Central train station has been arrested a week after police shot dead an ice addict who attacked a railway florist with scissors and a broken bottle.
NSW Police confirmed that at 8.30am on Wednesday a man armed with a pair of scissors entered a shop at Central.
The shop was located in the Henry Deane Plaza at the Broadway end of the Central Station tunnel.
After the man entered the shop allegedly armed with the scissors he closed the shop door, NSW Police Media told news.com.au.
A staff member managed to contact police and officers attended the shop where the man was arrested without incident.
Police officers descended on Central station a week after the fatal incident on Wednesday evening of last week.

UPDATE Huge blaze London attraction as 70 firefighters battle flames/smoke seen for miles around
A HUGE blaze has ripped through London’s iconic Camden Market with 70 firefighters battling the flames.
Pictures from the scene show pillars of black smoke erupting from the North London tourist hotspot as people reported seeing flames from miles around.
Emergency services were called to the market just before midnight and have asked people to avoid the area.
Firefighters have taped off part of Camden High Street as they battle the blaze, with flames earlier seen erupting from an Honest Burger restaurant.
Met Police said: “Police were called on Monday at 12.10am to Camden Lock Market to reports of a fire.
“London Fire Brigade were already at the scene when officers arrived.
“It is unknown at this stage if any persons are injured, we await update.”
London Ambulance Service has said it is not currently treating anyone at the scene.

A woman and a man have been rushed to hospital after being shot by police at a Melbourne nightclub.
Police said the man was shot inside the King Street nightclub when he “pulled out a handgun” in an upstairs room about 3am on Saturday.
Officers fired at the man, hitting him in the torso. He is now under guard in hospital, police said…

Sydney Roosters beat Melbourne Storm 25-24 in golden point as Nth Queensland and Brisbane win
The Sydney Roosters have come from behind to beat Melbourne Storm 25-24 in a golden point thriller at Adelaide Oval.
It was first v second in the match of the round, but the Roosters made a brilliant late comeback to take the game beyond 80 minutes.
Speedster Josh Addo-Carr starred for Melbourne, racing 80m to score an intercept try in the 25th minute, and then diving acrobatically over the line to touch down in the corner two minutes into the second half.
Interchange player Brandon Smith had another Storm try rubbed out three minutes later when he was offside from a kick.
Melbourne’s other winger, Suliasi Vunivalu, tried to outdo his team-mate in the 52nd minute, however, when he flew through the air over the sideline but managed to get his hand around the corner flag to touch the ball down for a brilliant try to put the Storm out to a 20-6 lead.
The Roosters received a boost when young centre Latrell Mitchell went over for a score with 19 minutes left to bring the score back to 20-12, but Jahrome Hughes re-established a two-try lead when he burst through the Sydney defence to get the ball down after 69 minutes.
Daniel Tupou gave the Roosters a sniff when he finished off a move to go over in the left corner for a try to leave it 24-18 with seven minutes remaining.
And then with the Roosters desperate to level things up, Blake Ferguson fended off the Storm defence to go over in the final minute, before Michael Gordon added the extras to make it 24-24 at full-time.
Both sides had solid sets to begin golden point, but the Roosters then charged down the right, and the ball came back to Pearce, whose field goal split the uprights to give his team the win.
The Storm could have had a six-point break on the ladder with a win, but now the Roosters are within two points of the competition leaders…
