Intel CEO Brian Krzanich latest to leave Trump adviser group: ANOTHER ONE

The tech chief says he is concerned about the harm “our divided political climate” is causing to issues such as equality.

The chief executive of tech giant Intel is the latest high-profile figure to quit a group that advises the Trump administration.

Brian Krzanich said he was leaving the President’s manufacturing council because he was concerned about the harm “our divided political climate” is causing to issues such as equality.

He criticised the “many in Washington” who “seem to be more concerned with attacking anyone who disagrees with them”.

It follows the resignations from the same group on Monday of Kenneth Frazier, the black chief executive of pharmaceutical giant Merck, and Kevin Plank, the CEO of Under Armour.

Mr Frazier said he was quitting in the wake of Mr Trump’s initial failure to condemn the far-right for violence in Charlottesville.

Mr Krzanich wrote on the Intel website: “Politics and political agendas have sidelined the important mission of rebuilding America’s manufacturing base.

BREAKING Lib Minister Matt Canavan could be dual-Italian citizen and may have to resign

Attorney-General George Brandis and Matt Canavan to hold press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Turnbull government cabinet minister Matthew Canavan looks to have been caught out as the third member of Parliament to hold dual citizenship, potentially disqualifying him from the Senate.

Senator Canavan will address media shortly alongside Attorney-General George Brandis.

Federal MPs are not allowed to serve as dual citizens under section 44 of the constitution.

Greens co-deputies Scott Ludlam and Larissa Waters were forced to resign over the past fortnight after discovering they were dual citizens.

Mr Ludlam resigned on July 14 after being recently told he was a New Zealand dual national. Ms Waters resigned last Tuesday after learning she was a Canadian dual citizen.

IS threat in Southeast Asia raises alarm in Washington

Southeast Asia’s jihadis who fought by the hundreds for the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria now have a different battle closer to home in the southern Philippines. It’s a scenario raising significant alarm in Washington.

The recent assault by IS-aligned fighters on the Philippine city of Marawi has left more than 300 people dead, exposing the shortcomings of local security forces and the extremist group’s spreading reach in a region where counterterrorism gains are coming undone.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told Congress last week a long-running U.S. military operation to help Philippine forces contain extremist fighters was canceled prematurely three years ago. Small numbers of U.S. special forces remain in an “advise and assist” role, and the U.S. is providing aerial surveillance to help the Philippines retake Marawi, an inland city of more than 200,000 people.

But lawmakers, including from President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, want a bigger U.S. role, short of boots on the ground. They fear the area is becoming a new hub for Islamist fighters from Southeast Asia and beyond.

‘I held dying Saffie in my arms’ 8yo terror victim cried out for her mother: First aider reveals

The youngest victim of the Manchester suicide bombing Saffie Roussos desperately called out for her mother while a man desperately tried to save her in his arms.

Saffie, eight, was close to the foyer when bomber Salman Abedi detonated an improvised explosive device which killed 22 people – including children.

Forklift truck driver Paul Reid, 43, had been at the Ariana Grande concert and sprinted back into Manchester Arena after hearing the bomb go off.

He picked up the dying girl, from Tarleton, Lancashire, in his arms and tried to calm her down during the chaos on Monday night.

He has now described the ‘devastating’ moment he saw people’s bodies strewn across the floor just inside the doors of the 21-000 capacity venue.

Speaking through tears, he told The Sun: ‘She was a dying little girl and she just wanted her mum. It was devastating.’

He was one of the first people to alert the police to the atrocity and described seeing a ‘boom’ before smoke started to fill the room.

The father added: ‘I ran back up the stairs and I was actually looking for a terrorist. I knew it had been a bomb.

‘People were shouting, running and screaming. I will never forget the sounds. Inside the hall was absolute chaos. There were people lying all over the place.

‘There were people dead everywhere and people running in a panic towards the train station.’

He recalled the moment he saw Saffie, who attended the event with her mother Lisa and her half-sister Ashlee Bromwich, 25.

Her mother is in intensive care, and may not know her daughter was killed.

Mr Reid added: ‘She said “where’s my mum?” I said to her “I don’t know but we are going to find her in a minute. Don’t worry, we are going to sort it out. You are going to be all right”.

‘The little girl’s legs were mangled in a bad way and she had a big round hole above her hip but there was no blood coming out of it. She also had a big head injury to her temple.’

He then made a stretcher with police officers using an advertising board and placed the youngster on it.

She was then placed in ambulance and he said that he will ‘never forget her’.

Floral tributes and messages of condolence and support were placed in Albert square and St.Anne's square in the city centre

A family friend of tragic Saffie described her father as ‘completely broken.’

The group were due to be collected by Saffie’s Greek Cypriot dad Andreas – known as Andrew.

Family friend Salman Patel, 33, works at the Post Office as a counter clerk opposite the family home in Leyland, Lancashire.

Mr Patel said: ‘Andrew is completely broken and last night he was in the chip shop but I didn’t speak to him.’

He said he understood Ashlee is recovering well, even though she is still suffering from ‘shock’.

But he could not confirm if Lisa was still in a coma but previously said it was understood that she was unaware her daughter is dead.

Mr Patel added: ‘I know the girls quite well, they would come into the shop and buy sweets.

‘I was disappointed, these things are unacceptable. These things really annoy me, she was just a little girl.

‘I spoke to Andrew just last week, we see each other every day. The other daughter is fine now, she’s injured and is still in shock.

‘She was a really nice girl, I have seen her playing outside the chippy on her scooter and with other girls in the local area. They are in my prayers.’
