Choice Australia: Consuming 26 SPOONS of added sugar each day…

While many people are now aware that a spoonful of sugar in your morning cup of tea is as harmful for your health as it is for your waistline, what not so many know is that sugar comes in many forms and with countless names.

This is why the Australian consumer watchdog, Choice Australia, have done some research into the world of added sugar labelling in Australia.

The results? People could be consuming as many as 26 spoonfuls of added sugar unnecessarily each day and a whopping 38 kilograms each year.

The researchers took a look into how much intrinsic (necessary and naturally-occurring) sugar is present in several common food items, as well as how much was added to make them taste better.

‘Added sugars provide empty kilojoules, or kilojoules with little or no associated nutrients,’ Choice reported.

‘Excess intake of added sugar is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity, dental caries and cardiovascular disease.’

Choice also stated that from malt to agave and maple syrup to molasses, there are countless words for sugar, which often confuses people. It pays to be aware of these and to shop accordingly…

Trump can’t ‘speak of protecting Syrian babies’ while pushing a ban of refugees: Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton cast President Donald Trump as hypocritical Friday, arguing that while he uses pictures of children killed in gas attacks to justify airstrikes in Syria, he at the same time shuts the door on refugees from the country.

The remarks, at a political event in Texas, come as Clinton reemerges on the political scene months after losing the 2016 presidential election to Trump, who authorized airstrikes in Syria on Thursday after blaming Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for a chemical attack in a rebel-controlled town in the war-torn country.

“It is essential that the world does more to deter Assad from committing future murderous atrocities,” Clinton said. “But the action taken last night needs to be followed by a broader strategy to end Syria’s civil war.”

Referring to Trump’s administration, she added, “I also hope that they will recognize that we cannot in one breath speak of protecting Syrian babies and in the next close American doors to them.”

Jerry Lee Lewis sues his daughter claiming she gave him a ‘cocktail of drugs…

Jerry Lee Lewis, 81, has filed a lawsuit against his own daughter Phoebe claiming she abused him during her time as his manager, 2000-2012.

The rock n’ roll star alleges Phoebe would serve him ‘cocktails of psychotropic drugs’ to control him, TMZ reported. The Great Balls of Fire singer also accused his daughter of keeping him in a moldy house where he was forced to wear an oxygen mask.

In addition to the alleged abuse, the court documents state that Phoebe and her husband Ezekiel Loftin were reportedly after the 81-year-old’s fortune, as he claims they blew $5million of his money.
