Man in critical condition as car crashes through wall in Claremont

A MAN in his 30s was in a critical condition in hospital tonight after he was hit by a car as it was being reversed out of a Claremont garage.

The accident happened about 3.10pm at a property on Chester Road when the driver, who is believed to be the man’s father, mistakenly stepped on the accelerator.

The white convertible then crashed through a wall before coming to rest balancing above a backyard swimming pool next door.

It is believed the injured man fell down a 2-3m drop into the swimming pool before being rushed to hospital by paramedics.

Fire fighters and a tow truck driver tried to drag the vehicle off the ledge but were unable to prize it free. A crane is expected to be called in on Monday to remove it.
