The federal government wants to beef up its national database to include photos from driver’s licences and other IDs for its facial recognition system.
Malcolm Turnbull will on Thursday ask state and territory leaders to agree to hand over the photos at a special national security meeting in Canberra.

A contractor for the Perth Mint Refinery has been charged with stealing a one kilogram gold bar worth more than $52,000.
The Perth Mint noticed a gold bar was missing on April 7, prompting an internal inquiry by its security management team.
The theft was then referred to WA Police’s Gold Stealing Detection Unit.
Police searched the home of a 25-year-old Ballajura man.
He was charged with stealing as a servant and gaining benefit by fraud.
The man will appear in Perth Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Actor Édgar Ramirez was snapped on the Los Angeles set of Versace: American Crime Story on Friday.
It’s the latest installment in FX’s run documenting real-life crime stories, on the heels of last year’s successful mini-series in the franchise, The People v. O.J. Simpson.
In the shots, Ramirez, who plays Gianni Versace in the Ryan Murphy production, was made up to sport a gory face with bloodstains and missing patches of flesh, prior to his character being wheeled away on a gurney in an emergency vehicle reading Miami Beach Fire Department on the side of it.
Others cast in the project, which will be filmed in both Los Angeles and Miami, include Penelope Cruz, who plays the designer’s sibling Donatella Versace; and singer Ricky Martin, who plays the designer’s partner Antonio D’Amico.

While initially Andrew, 38, told experts and other couples he did not feel at all responsible for the breakdown of his relationship, the final cut of the show saw him accept partial responsibility.
Similarly, an outburst from the fireman – which didn’t make it into Sunday night’s episode – saw him criticise his bride’s social media use, telling her: ‘You’ve got 10,000 followers on Instagram… You like being judged on your appearance.’
