WA couple die after crashing HSV Holden Commodore they had just bought before car burst into flames

A man and a woman have been killed in a fiery car crash only a day after purchasing the $130,000 vehicle.

The car slammed into an embankment and caught fire after it went through the intersection of Mooliabeene Road at Gingin, 90km north of Perth, around 8.15pm on Saturday.

A woman in her 20s and man in his 30s were burned almost beyond recognition in the $130,000 Holden HSV Commodore.

The couple had left a pub in Gingin approximately 10 minutes before the crash.

The car failed to stop at the T-intersection and slammed into an embankment before exploding into flames.

The car was so badly burnt out it took police hours to work out who the couple were and were not even sure who was driving the vehicle.

A witness said he believed the man was driving recklessly.

‘He was driving absolutely crazy – just foot to the floor and make as much noise as possible,’ the witness told 7 News.

Police are investigating whether speed and alcohol were a factor in the crash.

11 children are being rescued in WA from locked cars each week-lives are being endangered

Eleven children are being rescued in WA from locked cars each week on average, prompting warnings young lives are being endangered because vehicle temperatures can reach deadly levels within 10 minutes.

The RAC has revealed that its roadside assistance patrols have freed 706 children and 293 pets in WA in the past 15 months, the majority being accidental lock-ins.

“That equates to about 11 children and four pets each week, including on some of Perth’s hottest days,” patrol officer Cameron Dargan said.

Tests by the RAC in Queensland on a 32C day found the interior of a parked car rose from air-conditioned levels to the outside temperature within 1.5 minutes, then to 40C about 6.5 minutes later.

China proposes North Korea suspend nuclear, missile activities in exchange for halt in US-South Korea military drills

China has proposed that North Korea could suspend its nuclear and missile activities in exchange for a halt in joint military drills conducted by the US and South Korea.

Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday that escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula were like ‘two accelerating trains, coming toward each other with neither side willing to give way.’

Wang asked: ‘Are the two sides really ready for a head-on collision?’

He added that as a first step to defusing the looming crisis, the North might suspend its nuclear and missile activities if the US and South Korea halted their military exercises.

Wang says the ‘suspension-for-suspension can help us break out of the security dilemma and bring the parties back to the negotiating table.’

On Monday, President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned that the threat from North Korea had ‘entered a new stage,’ following another defiant missile test.

The two leaders spoke by telephone after North Korea fired off four ballistic missiles, in what Pyongyang provocatively called a training exercise for a strike on US bases in Japan.
