Kyrgios loses temper + match US Open loss to fellow Aussie John Millman

NICK Kyrgios claims he had no devotion to tennis and probably never would after completing a “diabolical” grand slam season with a drama-charged first-round US Open defeat.

Kyrgios complained of a “dead” shoulder during his 6-3 1-6 6-4 6-1 loss to fellow Australian John Millman before revealing far deeper concerns during an extraordinary post-match press conference.

Shattered by his latest flop, the tempestuous talent admitted his coach deserved better when asked if he would continue working with Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean beyond the Open.

RESULTS: Busy day at Flushing Meadows as US Open plays catch-up after rain

“I don’t know, honestly. I’m not good enough for him,” Kyrgios said. “He’s very dedicated. He’s an unbelievable coach. He probably deserves a player that is probably more dedicated to the game than I am. He deserves a better athlete than me.

“I’m not dedicated to the game at all.

“He’s helped me a lot, especially with the training, in training sessions, but there are players out there that are more dedicated, that want to get better, that strive to get better every day, (do the) the one-percenters. I’m not that guy.” After winning an unprecedented 20 from 20 matches against lower-ranked or unseeded rivals at grand slams, Kyrgios has since suffered upset losses at five straight majors.

Trump celebrates solar eclipse by looking up without special viewing glasses

The first rule of enjoying the eclipse is to never look directly at the sun without eclipse glasses.

President Trump on Monday gazed at the first solar eclipse in a century to cross the continental United States, coast to coast. But at one point he appeared to ignore precautions that scientists and doctors warned were necessary to protect people’s eyes during the celestial event.

Trump emerged on the Truman Balcony of the White House with first lady Melania and son Barron shortly before the eclipse reached its apex in Washington. He waved at the crowd and responded to a reporter’s question — “How’s the view?” — with a thumbs up, according to the White House press pool.

Then he tilted his head upward and pointed toward the sky, prompting a White House aide standing beneath the balcony to shout, “Don’t look,” according to the press pool. It is unclear if Trump looked directly at the sun, but photos of the moment have already become an object of derision.

Liberal MP Ann Sudmalis scrambling to confirm UK citizenship status

Another Coalition MP is facing questions about her entitlement to dual citizenship, Fairfax Media can reveal, with Liberal Ann Sudmalis urgently seeking to clarify her status.

As the citizenship crisis engulfing the Federal Parliament deepens, and coming just a day after Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce announced he was a dual national of Australia and New Zealand, Fairfax Media has confirmed that Ms Sudmalis has been in contact with the UK government to clarify her status.

Ms Sudmalis, the member for Gilmore, is one of a number of MPs facing questions about her citizenship by descent with a foreign country, following the revelation Mr Joyce was automatically entitled to New Zealand citizenship.

In turn the government has turned its sights on Labor, demanding the opposition provide documentation for four of its MPs – Tony Zappia, Maria Vamvakinou, Justine Keay and Susan Lamb…

Saturn’s moon Pan shows a mysterious ravioli-shaped shepherd

THAT’S not a moon, that’s a … ravioli! Saturn’s strangest satellite, Pan, has been photographed for the first time. And it’s like nothing we’ve seen before.

The Cassini space probe has been taking risky dives through Saturn’s rings and sweeping past close to the planet ahead of its deliberate destruction in September this year.

Its impending inevitable demise means NASA’s happy to take risks.

Risks which include getting close enough to the cluster of ice and dust that forms Saturn’s iconic rings to get the first good look at its small moon, Pan.

It’s just 30km wide and helps ‘shepherd’ the rings into a distinctive gap.

“Pan in mind-blowing detail with its unmistakeable accretionary equatorial bulge,” tweeted the head of imaging for the Cassini mission, Carolyn Porco.

Exactly where Pan comes from or how it was made is an ongoing matter of debate. It was only discovered in 1990 after a re-examination of photos from the Voyager missions.

Are they the leftover shards of a larger body which have since collected ring rubble and grown?
