Australian nurse jailed for illegal Cambodian surrogacy

Tammy Davis-Charles was found guilty of providing commercial surrogacy services in Phnom Penh.

An Australian nurse has been jailed for 18 months in Cambodia for providing commercial surrogacy services.

Tammy Davis-Charles was arrested in Phnom Penh in November last year, shortly after the Cambodian government had banned commercial surrogacy.

During her trial the 49-year-old denied the charges and said she only provided medical care to the surrogates.

Commercial surrogacy has grown in South East Asia in recent years, prompting some countries to take action.

In 2015 Thailand imposed a similar ban on foreigners seeking Thai surrogates, following a string of scandals.

Pilot captures moment when a ‘rocket’ is launched over China from cockpit window

Dutch pilot captures a ‘once-in-a-lifetime event’ when a ‘rocket’ is launched over the Himalayas.

Christiaan van Heijst regularly captures rare sights from the cockpit of the Boeing 747-8 freighter plane he flies for a living.

But the Dutch pilot has described a recent sighting as a “once-in-a-lifetime event”.

On a July 22nd flight from Hong Kong to Baku, Azerbaijan, Van Heijst was passing over the Himalayas when he spotted what he believed was a rocket launch above the clouds.

Prince Harry to visit Sydney in June so will Meghan come? Celebrate hosting of 2018 Invictus Games…

The beloved Royal is well known for his extensive charitable work for children and veterans, and in raising awareness of mental health.

And his work is soon set to bring him to Australia, with Prince Harry due to touch down in Sydney in early June.

It is not known if his girlfriend, Meghan Markle (pictured), will be by his side when he touches down next monthA statement from Kensington Palace says the 32-year-old Prince ‘will attend events to celebrate the city’s hosting of the 2018 Invictus Games’.

The Invictus Games is the international sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women founded by the Prince in 2014.

They will take place from October 18 to 29 next year, with over 500 competitors taking part from 17 nations, according to the Games’ offical website.

Participants will compete in 11 different adaptive sports, and events will be held around the city, with Olympic Park and Sydney Harbour set to take centre stage.

It is not known if his girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle, will attend – though the pair are believed to have met while the Prince was attending an Invictus Games event in Toronto.

If she does, she may have to act as a body guard.

The last time Prince Harry dropped into Sydney for a visit two years ago he was inundated with kisses and marriage proposals.

Back then, Prince Harry was winding up his 10 years with the British army by spending a month on attachment with Aussie troops in Perth and Darwin.

When he arrived in Sydney to bid farewell to Australia, hundreds of fans lined the Opera House steps, some with signs emblazoned with ‘Marry Me Harry’ and ‘His Royal Hotness’.

One of his biggest fans, Victoria McRae, a 21-year-old student at the time, even managed to get a royal peck on the lips and squeeze in a quick proposal to her favourite prince.

PERTH is set to once again become crane city as construction begins on 60 buildings

CRANES are set to dot the city skyline again, with about 60 buildings under construction or likely to begin soon after gaining development approval from the council.

City of Perth 3-D modelling shows the dramatic impact of the new skyscrapers, with about 30 buildings earmarked for central Perth or Northbridge, about 20 in East Perth and almost 10 in West Perth.

The developments include plans for Perth’s tallest building — a $100 million, 62-storey hotel and apartment tower on the St Andrews Church site that will stand 249.5m high — 50cm higher than Rio Tinto’s Central Park.

A $200 million, 52-floor apartment and hotel complex on Milligan Street will be 179m high and become the fifth-highest peak in the central business district.

The range of coming developments shows Perth is increasingly becoming a place where people live and recreate, with most of the new buildings to be apartment towers or hotels.

Sydney has 200,000 empty homes and foreign investors blamed. Room for the Refugees??

There are 200,000 homes on prime Sydney real estate sitting empty because foreign investors have bought them with no intention of living in them or renting them out, a leading real estate expert claims.

Douglas Driscoll, the chief executive of Starr Partners, estimates the number of unoccupied homes has almost doubled from 120,000 in 2011, in a city which is already the second most unaffordable in the world after Hong Kong.

Mr Driscoll believes the empty homes are a major contributor to Sydney’s housing crisis, which has seen prices double in the past eight years and rise at an average of $222 a day.

‘Foreign investors are only exacerbating the problem by buying properties and leaving them vacant,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

Why do the police ask, ‘Do you know why I pulled you over?’

nsw-police

Because they’re looking for an admission from you that you were violating the law.  If you say, “It’s probably because I was going 75 in a 35, right officer?” then you just made that traffic stop a whole hell of a lot easier for them.
