Andrew Denton diagnosed with advanced heart disease: Star requires bypass surgery

ANDREW Denton has been forced to pull out of a campaign to legalise euthanasia after being diagnosed with advanced heart disease.

The news is a huge blow for the 57-year-old, who must now undergo multiple bypass surgery.

Denton’s diagnosis comes as Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is set to introduce a bill for assisted suicide in parliament.

The TV personality’s absence from the campaign has been described as a disaster by advocates, Fairfax reported.

Denton has been a vocal advocate of voluntary euthanasia in recent years and told the National Press Club last year how the will was there for Australians to support assisted dying laws.

He accused prominent Liberal Kevin Andrews and Labor figure Tony Burke of being part of a “subterranean Catholic force” behind an ongoing campaign to prevent assisted dying laws from being reintroduced in the country.

The broadcaster said the forces behind the repeal of NT-assisted death laws by the John Howard government in 1996 — and the subsequent removal of the right of territories to create such laws — “were still in play”.

Did Pauline Hanson fly a drone illegally? CLIP Here

It seems Pauline Hanson can’t do much right these days.

After posting a harmless video on social media showing the senator flying a drone, she sparked a barrage of criticism for apparent breaches of regulations.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is now looking into whether Senator Hanson defied regulations.

She posted the video to her official Facebook and Twitter accounts on Wednesday night, which showed the One Nation leader standing on the balcony of a high-rise in Townville, flying a drone.

After receiving numerous comments from people telling her to be careful, or insulting her, the video was removed just hours after posting.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority confirmed today that it was ‘reviewing the video.

darren-osborne-front2.jpgRelatives of the man held by police over the Finsbury Park attack has expressed their shock, saying he was “troubled [but] not a racist”, while a neighbour described the suspect as a “complete c***”. Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old father-of-four from Cardiff, was arrested after pedestrians were targeted by a man driving a van near a mosque in north London early on Monday morning.

At least one person has died and 11 others were injured following the attack, which police are treating as terror related.

Witnesses described seeing Osborne shouting “I’m going to kill all Muslims” and saying the attack was “for London Bridge” as he was arrested and dragged from the scene by police…

US Supreme Court won’t block Arkansas execution, 4th lethal injection in 8 days

VARNER, Ark. (AP) — The Latest on Arkansas’ effort to execute a fourth inmate before its supply of a lethal injection drug expires on Sunday (all times local):

10:15 p.m.

The U.S. Supreme Court says it won’t stop Arkansas from executing Kenneth Williams, rejecting claims that the inmate is intellectually disabled and ineligible for the death penalty.

Williams’ execution is set for Thursday night. He would be the fourth inmate put to death by Arkansas in the past eight days in a compressed schedule because one of the state’s lethal drugs expires Sunday.

Williams was sentenced to death for the killing of a former deputy warden after Williams escaped from prison in 1999. Williams was being held for the death of a college cheerleader when he escaped in a 500-gallon barrel of hog slop.

10 p.m.

A spokesman says Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is consulting with the state’s attorney general to determine the state’s next moves as it awaits a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court on a condemned inmate’s last appeals.

The death warrant for Kenneth Williams expires at midnight, and he has several legal challenges pending with the high court.

Hutchinson’s spokesman J.R. Davis says the governor planned to speak with Attorney General Leslie Rutledge to discuss their “next steps” regarding Williams’ execution. There are no current stays in place.

Arkansas has executed three inmates in the past eight days in a schedule that Hutchinson set because one of the state’s lethal drugs expires at the end of the month.
