Two women rescued from NSW floodwaters
Two women and a dog have been rescued from a car in floodwater on the NSW mid north coast.
The trio was stranded in a causeway at Billinudgel on Sunday afternoon when plucked to safety by State Emergency Service volunteers as heavy persistent rain continued to fall in areas from Port Macquarie up to Lismore.
The rescue was the first as a result of this week’s heavy rainfall, SES spokesman Phil Campbell told AAP on Sunday.
“There’s only been one flood rescue, which is really good news,” he said.
There are flood watches on at least seven rivers on the mid north coast up to the Northern Rivers region, with Mr Campbell saying the Tweed, the Wilsons, the Richmond and the Brunswick rivers were of most concern.
More rain is predicted on Monday and Tuesday with conditions expected to worsen.
“The advice from the bureau is that the worst is still to come,” he said.
“Tuesday is the day of greatest concern for us at the moment.”
More than 210 millimetres of rain fell over the Richmond and Wilsons River valley during the weekend…

South Sudan: 15 young children die due to botched measles vaccinations
South Sudan:
The South Sudanese government says 15 young children have died as a result of a botched measles vaccination campaign.
All of the children who died were under the age of five, said the health ministry, which blamed the deaths on human error.
One syringe was used for all the children over four days, it said, and the vaccine was not stored properly – with children as young as 12 years old administering injections.

Actress Teresa Palmer stars in terrifying trailer for Australian thriller Berlin Syndrome
She recently had success at the box office with the horror hit Lights Out.
And it looks like Teresa Palmer is sticking to scary movies, if the trailer for her latest film is anything to go by.
The Australian thriller, directed by Somersault director Cate Shortland, will most certainly unnerve audiences when it’s released in April.
