China releases jailed Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo

China’s jailed Nobel peace prize laureate Liu Xiaobo has been granted medical parole after being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer last month, his lawyer said.

Mr Liu, who had about three years of his 11-year sentence to serve, was diagnosed on May 23 and was released days later, said lawyer Mo Shaoping.

The 61-year-old democracy campaigner was being treated at a hospital in the northeastern city of Shenyang.

“He has no special plans. He is just receiving medical treatment for his illness,” Mo said.

NBN spending $437,000 taxpayer money free coffee for employees

The public have grounds for outrage after revelations the NBN has been milking taxpayers for nearly half a million dollars to feed their caffeine fix.

Expenses by the government internet initiative have shown they spent an astonishing $437,000 on coffee, a number they believe is justified because it ‘aids productivity.’

The network purchased $210,000 worth of luxury espresso machines, averaging nearly $5,000 per unit.

A spokesperson told Fairfax the expensive coffee-makers have been worth the exorbitant cost by ‘reducing the time spent by staff purchasing coffee outside their offices.’

$210,000 was spent on expensive coffee appliances, with a further $82,000 on maintenance

If you’re buying ritzy machines you need the appropriate coffee to go with it, and the NBN has that covered too, spending $145,000 ensuring their employees have the finest blends.

Usually the more expensive the product is, the maintenance costs also rise, which explains why they spent $82,000 maintaining the appliances.

Even Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull (pictured center), who was behind the NBN, and his cabinet do not have their coffee accounted for

Most government departments do not provide employees with free coffee, and the ones that do spend just over a quarter of the NBN’s bill, at around $129,000.

Even Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the man behind the NBN, and his cabinet do not have their cup of joe accounted for, which must have him in a grind.

The NBN’s coverage extends to less than half the country, with a spokeswoman telling Daily Mail Australia they hope to reach 50% by mid-2017.
