Two boats collided near a Russian city that is hosting the World Cup, killing 11 people, authorities say.
A state media report said the captain of one of the vessels was drunk.
The accident occurred late Monday (local time) on the Volga River several hundred metres off the shoreline of the city of Volgograd in southern Russia.
According to a statement from regional emergency officials, a barge being pulled by a towboat collided with a paddleboat carrying 16 people on a sightseeing tour.

Some DUP politicians also reject the concept of evolution and believe in creationism, the claim that God created the world in seven days, and believe that creationism should be taught in schools.
Having failed to win an overall majority in the UK’s general election, Theresa May’s Conservative party is hoping to foster an informal coalition with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Members of the party have taken controversial stances on everything from climate change to evolution, with one assembly member being unaware that heterosexual people can contract HIV. Here are five things you need to know when it comes to science and the DUP
Climate change
The party has a history of speaking out against climate change. Senior member Sammy Wilson has called climate change a “con”, and described the Paris Agreement as “window dressing for climate chancers”. During his time as Northern Ireland’s environment minister, he said that people would eventually “look back at this whole climate change debate and ask ourselves how on Earth we were ever conned into spending billions of pounds” on the issue.
It isn’t just Wilson though – in 2014, DUP ministers tried to oppose proposals to introduce local measures against climate change in Northern Ireland.
Abortion
Northern Ireland remains the only part of the UK where women cannot access abortion unless their life is endangered by pregnancy – a legal situation that is incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights, according to a Belfast High Court ruling in 2015.
But on taking leadership of the party in 2016, Arlene Foster promised to block any attempt to change these laws, telling reporters “I would not want abortion to be as freely available here as it is in England.”
Foster did, however, say she might consider an amendment in cases of rape. But the DUP’s Jim Wells – formerly the health minister for Northern Ireland – opposes abortion even in these circumstances.
Evolution
DUP assembly member Thomas Buchanan has previously called for creationism to be taught in schools. In 2016, he voiced support for an evangelical Christian programme that offers “helpful practical advice on how to counter evolutionary teaching”. He has expressed a desire to see every school in Northern Ireland teaching creationism, describing evolution as a “peddled lie”.
Buchanan told the Irish News “I’m someone who believes in creationism and that the world was spoken into existence in six days by His power,” adding that children had been “corrupted by the teaching of evolution”.
Green energy
The DUP’s leader narrowly survived a no-confidence motion following a disastrous attempt to bolster green energy in Northern Ireland by providing subsidies for wood burners. Arlene Foster introduced the scheme in 2012 when she was head of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment. The original budget was £25 million, but a lack of price controls meant that, over five years, almost £500 million went up in smoke.
HIV
Last year, DUP assembly member Trevor Clarke admitted that he had thought only gay people could be infected with HIV, until a charity explained otherwise. He made the comments during a parliamentary debate around a campaign to “promote awareness and prevention” of HIV in Northern Ireland and to increase support for those living with HIV.

The defense says it’s calling just one witness: the detective who led the 2005 investigation into allegations Cosby drugged and violated Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home.
Detective Richard Schaffer was one of 12 witnesses who testified during the five-day prosecution case.
Cosby says his attorneys won’t call any character witnesses.

Earthquake strikes off Turkey’s coast near Greek islands
A strong earthquake has struck off the coast of western Turkey with tremors felt in Istanbul and on some Greek islands, reports say.
The epicentre of the 6.3 magnitude quake was 84 km (52 miles) northwest of the Turkish city of Izmir, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.
Some damage was reported in the town of Plomari, on the Greek island of Lesbos.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Jeremy Clarkson gives eye-witness account of Richard Hammond’s crash
Jeremy Clarkson has since written about the situation for Drive Tribe, saying “I genuinely thought he was dead.”
According to the report, Clarkson was enjoying a ‘chilled glass of wine’ having finished filming when, over the radio, someone said Hammond and co-host James May were doing another shoot.
“It was a beautiful day,” Clarkson writes, “the filming had gone well and I was on the phone to our executive producer saying that it would be good enough for programme one of the next series when I heard on the walky talky that the Lamborghini test driver had had an ‘off’ in the [Lamborghini] Aventador.
“I was cross. We needed that car for pick up shots the next day and I couldn’t understand why he’d been on the hill in the first place, or why he was going fast enough to crash. Then I saw a plume of smoke.”
The host quickly zoomed up the hill, arriving 30-seconds later to see an “inferno raging, maybe a quarter of a mile away, at the bottom of a hill.”
“It was obvious from the skid marks what had happened,” Clarkson continues. “He’d lost it somehow on the final bend after the finishing line and had plummeted down one bank onto a road lower down the hill, which had caused his car to flip.
“The big question was: had he managed to get out. No-one knew.”
Standing above the scene, Clarkson soon realised the car that had crashed was Hammond’s Rimac. May soon stood alongside, the pair worried for Hammond’s life…

The Prime Minister is facing demands to say whether Rupert Murdoch asked her to appoint Michael Gove to the Cabinet.
In a letter to Theresa May, deputy Labour leader Tom Watson said it had been “suggested” to him that Mr Murdoch, owner of The Times and The Sun, had lobbied the PM for Mr Gove’s return to front-bench politics.
Ms May sacked the now-Environment Secretary last year when he was serving as Justice Secretary, having previously headed the Department for Education.
Mr Watson’s letter says: “Given your failure to secure a parliamentary majority and the consequent weakness of your position, it might be tempting to allow yourself to be influenced by powerful media proprietors who can shape the way your government is covered.

The Arizona Republican was asked in an interview published Sunday if America’s standing on the global stage was better under Obama than President Donald Trump.
“As far as American leadership is concerned, yes,” McCain told the Guardian.
McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, appeared irritated when asked about Trump’s message to the United Kingdom. Trump drew condemnation across the British political spectrum after attacking London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Twitter in the wake of the London Bridge terrorist attack. Khan and other British politicians called on the British government to cancel Trump’s visit.
“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” he replied.

The Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny has been detained outside his home after he called on his supporters to take to the streets of Moscow to demonstrate the growing momentum behind his protest movement.
The lawyer turned anti-corruption campaigner, who wants to challenge Vladimir Putin for the presidency next year, is popular among a minority of the population, but his support is growing. A protest in March against alleged corruption by the prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, drew an estimated 60,000 people to streets in cities across Russia.

More than 3000 without power in south-east Sydney after fire at electricity substation
More than 3000 homes and businesses in south-eastern Sydney have been left without power after a fire broke out in an electrical substation in Matraville on Monday.
Firefighters have contained the fire, which engulfed the station on Messines Place just after 3pm.
About 20 people in a neighbouring unit block were evacuated.
Ausgrid is working to restore power to about 3200 customers in the Matraville, Chifley, Malabar, Maroubra, Mayfield and Botany areas. The energy provider said they were waiting for the all clear from fire fighters before they can start to repair the damage. The blackout is estimated to last until 8pm.
The fire also cut power to a number of traffic lights in the area, including intersections on Anzac Parade.

The centrist party of French President Emmanuel Macron looks on course to win a landslide victory following the first round of parliamentary elections.
Projections show La République en Marche (Republic on the Move) and its MoDem ally set to win up to 445 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly.
The Socialists, France’s former ruling party, are seen losing 200 seats.
Traditional parties are urging voters to back Mr Macron’s rivals in a run-off vote to avoid him monopolising power.
Mr Macron’s party was established just over a year ago and many candidates have little or no political experience.
The final outcome will be decided in the second round of voting next Sunday…
