Bannon’s Breitbart spins Trump’s Afghanistan speech as ‘flip-flop’

Stephen K. Bannon is back at Breitbart and, as promised, he’s not pulling any punches.

“Trump reverses course, will send more troops to Afghanistan,” read the headline on Breitbart’s homepage following President Trump’s prime time address on U.S. military strategy in Afghanistan. “Defends flip-flop in somber speech.”

Trump’s Monday night speech — in which he further committed troops to the nation’s longest war, but offered few specifics — represented another clash between Trump and Bannon, who returned to Breitbart on Friday, the same day he was ousted as Trump’s chief strategist.

“The speech was a disappointment to many who had supported his calls during the campaign to end expensive foreign intervention and nation-building,” wrote Breitbart’s Pentagon correspondent Kristina Wong in the site’s lead article. “He acknowledged the frustration that Americans felt after 16 years of war without an end in sight.”

Bannon, who left Breitbart just a little over a year ago to join Trump’s presidential campaign, is back as its executive chairman and led an editorial meeting Friday evening. Earlier in the day, Breitbart senior editor at large Joel B. Pollak tweeted “#WAR” when news emerged that Bannon would leave the White House.

But Bannon says he won’t be going to war against the president, but on his behalf, he told Bloomberg News.

Ireland’s prime minister warns Theresa May over deal with DUP

Ireland’s prime minister has issued a warning to Theresa May over her plans to do a deal with the DUP to prop up a Tory minority government. Enda Kenny, who has been Taoiseach since 2011, said he had indicated his “concern” to the prime minister over the plan. Mr Kenny suggested that the arrangement, if poorly handled, could jeopardise the peace process in Northern Ireland…

Aviation authorities probe drone ‘near miss’ Singapore Airlines plane

AVIATION authorities are investigating claims a drone came dangerously close to a Singapore Airlines plane as it flew above the Swan River.

The airline had been holding a competition for the best photo of the special Perth flyover, but there are concerns some people went too far.

Photographer Daniel Kitlar went out to try and get a great snap during the airlines’ 50th anniversary celebration, but noticed the drone when he returned home to examine his images.

“It just shocked me, how can they fly so close to a massive piece of machinery with people’s lives on it?” Mr Kitlar said.

The Singapore A350 flew just 500 metres above the Swan River, but crowds were later left disappointed by the showing.

It remains unclear whether the Singapore Airlines pilot would have seen the drone, but no official complaint has been made to safety authorities.
