Ratings boost for TV show ‘Suits’ since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle started dating

WHEN it comes to the cut-throat world of television ratings, it pays to be associated with a royal.

Confidential can reveal that television show Suits, which stars Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle, has ­enjoyed boosted ­Australian ratings ever since the couple have been linked.

Fifteen per cent more people tuned in to watch the premiere episode last month, compared to the previous season.

Since the premiere of Suits, which airs on Foxtel’s Universal channel the same day in Australia as it does in the US, it has constantly remained one of Foxtel’s ­highest-rating drama programs…

24 people were killed in a car bomb attack in Kabul, Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman says

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN)At least 24 people have been killed in a car bomb attack in Kabul on Monday morning, according to an Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman. At least 42 others were injured in the blast.

The blast occurred around 6:40 a.m. local time (10:10 pm ET), when a Toyota Corolla exploded in the city’s Police District 3, Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish told CNN.

The target of the blast was not immediately clear, Danish said. No claim of responsibility has yet been made.

The bombing is the latest in a long line of attacks in the Afghan capital. Last month seven people died when suicide bombers struck the funeral of the son of a senator killed during anti-government protests.

The Taliban denied involvement in that attack, which injured 119 people.

Three people dead in separate road crashes on WA roads

WA’S road death toll has risen by three following a horror crash in Perth’s south east.

A 47-year-old woman died in a head-on collision in Flint that also left two others in serious condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

Around 6.15pm Friday night a blue Volvo hatchback was driving east along Brookton Highway when it collided with a white Holden Commodore near the intersection of Edison Mill Road.

The female driver of the Volvo died at the scene while the 18-year-old male driver of the Holden and his male passenger were taken to Royal Perth Hospital where they remain in serious but stable condition this morning.

That crash followed a double fatality in the state’s north earlier in the afternoon, when a road train collided with a car towing a caravan on Great Northern Highway roughly 150km south of Port Hedland.

A 46-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were killed in the crash, which occurred around 3pm. Two teenagers who were also in the car were taken to hospital as a precaution. They did not suffer serious injuries.

Major Crash Investigators from Perth are at the scene and Great Northern Highway remains closed in both directions.

Meanwhile, just before midnight on Friday police were called to a third crash, this time on Scarp Road in Myara (near North Dandalup) after a black Nissan Patrol veered off the road and rolled, coming to rest on its roof.

It is believed the 23-year-old male driver was thrown from the vehicle during the roll but became pinned underneath it.

One of his two passengers, who both escaped without injury, freed the driver from the wreckage and he was taken to RPH by the RAC Rescue Helicopter.

He remains there this morning in critical condition.

2 dead, dozens missing in Java landslide

Twenty-six people are missing in Indonesia’s East Java following a landslide, with rescue efforts being hampered by heavy rain and difficult conditions.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management (BNPB) said on Monday that the death toll from Saturday’s “thunderous” landslide in a village in the Ponorogo area of East Java had risen to two, with 26 still missing.

Three hundred people have been displaced by the 1.5 kilometre stretch of mud and debris, with more than 20 houses inundated.

Heavy rain at the site of the landslide is disturbing efforts to search for the missing, with conditions also proving difficult.

Alan Davies reveals he has BANNED his kids watching TV

He may be a household name for his role on TV crime drama Jonathan Creek and decade long tenure on panel show Q1.

But Alan Davies has revealed he has banned his children from watching television as he believes it could scupper their cognitive development.

Speaking to Radio Times, the 50-year-old comedian – who is father to Susie, six, Bobby, five, and 16-month-old Frances – admitted that he and his wife Katie Markell prefer to make their own fun, rather than rely on TV to always entertain.

He said: ‘To be honest we try to keep them away from the telly. Life’s too short. Old and knackered parents, you can sit and watch the telly, but children doing it is depressing. We’re convinced it scrambles their minds.’
