ONE of the State’s worst child sex offenders has pleaded guilty to dragging a teenager from her bed and repeatedly raping her in bushland almost 25 years ago.
Notorious rapist Patrick Alfred Comeagain, who now goes by the surname Merritt, was due to face a judge-alone trial in the District Court today over a string of historical child sex offences.
The dangerous sex offender pleaded not guilty to repeatedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in Geraldton in November 1994, but changed his pleas an hour later after discussions with the State.
The victim was at home with her 15-year-old sister when Merritt covered his face with green material, walked into her bedroom and grabbed her by the back of the head.
He told the girl to “do what I tell you” and forced her into nearby bushland before abusing her.
Merritt was charged with unlawfully detaining a child, deprivation of liberty, indecent assault and four counts of sexual penetration without consent after a cold case review into the unsolved crime.
