Soon you will only need to charge your phone 4 times a year

istock-603868486-0.jpgA new material being used in phone batteries is going to increase its lasting power for your satisfaction. Yes slaves. Now even the battery going down won’t free you from your trance. On the positive side, you will be freed from lugging around a bulky portable charger, or being ‘that guy’ who asks the bar tender if you can charge your phone behind the bar.

Researchers at the University of Michigan and Cornell University are pioneering a new material, called ‘magnetoelectric multiferroic’.

This material is a thin polar film, which can switched between positive and negative using a tiny pulse of energy.

100 times more efficient

The material will allow computers to operate on surges of energy, rather than the constant stream which is currently required.

The tech will mean less power overall is needed.

So this is good for you, people who want to advertise things to you, and good for the environment.

The new set up will mean mobile phones need 100 times less power to run.

Charging will take less time, and occur less frequently.

Coming in 2030

Sadly, it’s not yet ready for use. One of the lead researchers claims that the tech won’t be available until 2030.

They’re probably charging it.

Donald Trump is ‘greatest threat to international security’, says former MI6 head

donald-trump-saudi-arabia.jpg

America led by Donald Trump is the greatest menace facing the world today, Sir John Sawers, a former head of MI6, has declared, warning the policies being pursued by the divisive US President are “going to have a major disruptive effect” globally.

Sir John was speaking at the annual Herzliya security conference in Israel where senior public figures from the field of politics, military, and intelligence were asked who, in their view, presented the greatest threat to international security.

Some said it was Isis, others Islamist terrorists and North Korea with its nuclear capabilities. Others, perhaps mindful of where they were, talked of Iran and the Lebanese Shia militia, Hezbollah, both considered mortal enemies by the Jewish state.

But Sir John, who was the last chief of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, stated: “I have got serious reservations about Donald Trump as President of the United States.”

He continued: “The biggest threat the world faces is how we all adjust to the progressive withdrawal of responsible American leadership and the network of alliances that America maintained with Europe, with Asian countries and the partnerships they had across the region.”

Donald Trump renews attack on ‘dumb as a rock’ female TV host

Breaking-news.jpg

Donald Trump has doubled down on his attack on “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski, calling the television journalist “dumb as a rock,” and her show “low rated”.

“Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!” the President tweeted.

The tweet comes just one day after Mr Trump drew widespread criticism for attacking Ms Brzezinski’s appearance in another tweet. The President alleged Ms Brzezinski and co-host Joe Scarborough had “insisted” on visiting his South Florida state, and that she was “bleeding badly from a face-lift” at the time.

More follows…

Petrol tanker and bulk carrier in ‘major collision’ in English Channel

The two giant vessels ran into each other in the narrow Dover Strait – the world’s busiest shipping lane.

An oil tanker and a bulk carrier have smashed into each other in the English Channel.

The RNLI, which sent lifeboats to the scene, has described the crash as a “major collision”.

Britain’s coastguard received a call shortly after 2am this morning, reporting the incident in the narrow Dover Strait – the world’s busiest shipping lane.

The Hong Kong-registered 600ft tanker, the Seafrontier, was carrying 37,953 metric tonnes of petrol and had 27 people on board. It was heading to Puerto Barrios in Guatemala.

The 75,000-ton 738ft bulk carrier, Huayang Endeavour, also registered in Hong Kong, was en route to Lagos Nigeria. Carrying only ballast, it had a crew of 22.

Both vessels were at a complete stop, the RNLI said.

The Seafrontier was reported to have a gash in the hull above the waterline and damage to the superstructure.

The second vessel is also reported to have been damaged in the crash, but neither are thought to be taking on water and there was no pollution.

Grenfell survivor still having rent deducted by council

A leading campaigner says the resident made the discovery when she got a new bank card and saw her latest statement.

A woman who fled Grenfell Tower has discovered she was still having rent for her destroyed flat taken by the council, a campaigner has said.

Yvette Williams, a coordinator for Justice 4 Grenfell, said the survivor made the discovery when she got a new bank card and saw her latest statement.

A Conservative councillor on Kensington and Chelsea Council has said she was “very sorry to hear” about the claim.

Catherine Faulks stressed she was “not saying it’s a tiny thing”, and acknowledged it would be very upsetting for the person affected.

Adele Wembley shows cancelled after singer damages vocal chords

adele-grammys.jpgAdele has been forced to cancel the final two shows of her world tour after damaging her vocal cords. The “devastated” singer was scheduled to perform two more nights at London’s Wembley Stadium, but has taken the decision to pull out on medical advice. “To say I’m heartbroken would be a complete understatement,” she wrote wrote in a Twitter post.

The 29-year-old said her first two Wembley shows this week had been “the biggest and best shows of my life”, but that she had struggled vocally.

“I had to push a lot harder than I normally do… it turns out I have damaged my vocal cords,” she explained. “On medical advice, I am simply unable to perform over the weekend.

“I’ve considered doing Saturday night’s show, but it’s highly unlikely I’d even make it through the set and I simply can’t crumble in front of you all and walk out on you in that way.”
